TIDES OF CHANGE

“Getting  older? Gonna die someday?   Well please don’t talk about it!”

In the USA at least,  this has been the predominant message for quite a while. Technology and medicine have radically  changed our ability to  alter life’s course and how we view it.   Our culture strongly recommends that you  do everything possible to look young, stay young, be healthy, and fix one thing after another as though life could and should go on forever.

Nothing wrong with that – or is there?

There is a recent rise  of  a different perspective.

Planted firmly in the belief that death is a crucial part of the physical life cycle, it is being given back its deserved position as  part of  being human.  With the huge number of baby boomers experiencing the death of their parents and facing their own aging, the message has begun to change.

It’s almost three years since I first read the article by Dr. Atul Gawande which set me on this path of discovery. We’ll see what happens next with my exploration and this website.   Meanwhile the resource pages remain full of superb work that others have already done; the blog has numerous references as well and covers a lot of the journey which life and my reading took me on.  If this is a topic that concerns you in any way – do have a look there.   Wishing you all the best,  Joanna
